FAQ

What exactly is a Spiriva Respimat Inhaler?
The medication Spiriva Respimat is used to treat severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

How does Spiriva Respimat work?
When used to treat asthma, Spiriva Respimat prevents attacks of shortness of breath, and when used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), it reduces the number of flare-ups.

The active ingredients in the medication keep the airways in the lungs open, making it easier for air to enter and exit the lungs and facilitating normal breathing. It also reduces swelling, inflammation, and irritation.

What are the advantages of Spiriva Respimat?
Asthma and COPD can be debilitating conditions that impede daily life, and attacks of pain or shortness of breath can be both painful and distressing.

Taking Spiriva Respimat will aid in the management of these conditions, with the active ingredients’ effects lasting 24 hours.

It should be noted, however, that this medication is not a quick fix but a preventative measure. If you experience an attack of shortness of breath or wheezing, you will need to use a “rescue” inhaler, which you should always carry with you.

How do I properly utilise Spiriva Respimat Inhalers?
Spiriva Respimat is only available with a valid prescription. Always follow your doctor’s instructions and read the enclosed patient information leaflet.

Before beginning treatment with this medication, your doctor or nurse should demonstrate proper inhaler use. The inhaler has a mouthpiece at the top, a cap for when it is not in use, and a dose-remaining indicator on the front.

To administer a dose, hold the inhaler upright and turn the clear base until you hear a click (in the direction of the arrows). Open the cap, exhale as deeply as is comfortable, then place the inhaler in your mouth (indicating the back of your throat) and close your lips.

Press the dose-release button on the top of the inhaler, then hold your breath for 10 seconds. Take the inhaler out of your mouth and exhale slowly. Repeat these instructions for the second puff, and then replace the cap. It’s also a good idea to rinse your mouth out or brush your teeth after use, as medication residue can leave you with an unpleasant taste, as well as cause oral thrush or hoarseness.

Spiriva Respimat Ingredients
Spiriva Respimat contains 2.5 micrograms of the active ingredient tiotropium per administered dose.

The recommended dose is two puffs once daily, which should be taken at the same time each day because the medication is effective for 24 hours. Never deviate from your doctor’s prescribed dosage unless specifically instructed to do so.

Each time you use your inhaler, the dose indicator will decrease, indicating when you should see your doctor for a replacement.

If you forget to use your Spiriva Respimat, you should skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double your dose to compensate for a missed dose.

If you take an excessive amount of Spiriva Respimat, contact your doctor or pharmacist. The adverse effects of an overdose include an increased heart rate, blurred vision, and dry mouth.
